(LEAD) Yoon calls for thorough readiness for Typhoon Nanmadol

President Yoon Suk-yeol told officials on Sunday to be completely ready for Typhoon Nanmadol,

which is expected to hit the country's southern island of Jeju and the southeast coast.

The president gave the order to Interior Minister Lee Sang-min at Seoul Air Base early in the morning before leaving for London on a three-country trip

that will also take him to the United States and Canada, a presidential spokesperson said in a written briefing.

Yoon was quoted as saying, "It's scary that the stronger-than-expected typhoon could do more damage to our country,

including Pohang and Gyeongju, which were already hurt by Typhoon Hinnamnor."
