Q&A: Tyler Perry on directing his 1st script, 27 years later
Toronto (AP) —Tyler Perry's first screenplay, which he wrote 27 years ago, is now being made into a movie.
The screenplay for "A Jazzman's Blues," which is being shown for the first time at the Toronto International Film Festival,
was Perry's first attempt at writing a screenplay, back when he was putting what little money he had into less successful Atlanta stage shows
and before Madea made him a media mogul. Perry has made a lot of movies and TV shows
and has grown his 330-acre Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta. For his first film for Netflix, he went back to that old script and barely changed a word.
"A Jazzman's Blues" will be available to stream on September 23. "It seemed like the right time
," Perry said in an interview before the movie came out on Sunday. The movie is set in Georgia in the middle of the 20th century
