Tom Hardy secretly competes in Jiu-Jitsu and wins
He is more than just a tough guy on TV. Tom Hardy surprised a group of martial artists in England when, over the weekend, he sneaked into a Jiu-Jitsu competition.
The 45-year-old Oscar-nominated actor is a skilled blue belt in self-defense. He took part in the 2022 Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Open Championship and won the gold medal.
Hardy's surprise appearance at the open event in Milton Keynes, 90 minutes north of London, seemed to be a hit with both competitors and spectators.
The Guardian says that Hardy entered the contest using his real name, "Edward," instead of his stage name, which is also his middle name.
"Everyone knew who he was, but he was very humble and didn't mind letting people take pictures with him," a spokesperson told The Guardian
"Having him compete at our event was a real treat." Hardy's opponent, Danny Appleby, told local media that seeing the actor at the event "shell-shocked" him.
The veteran athlete said, "I was shell-shocked." "[Hardy] told me to forget it was him and do what I usually do."
