The data this week that will show whether NZ is in a recession
Stats NZ will issue GDP figures for the three months to June on Thursday.
Some economists believe a minor recession is possible, but most disagree.
Stats NZ projected the economy shrank 0.2% from January to March.
As recessions are defined in New Zealand as two consecutive quarterly drops, a second-quarter GDP drop would qualify. despite near-record-low unemployment.
Statistics are predicted by BNZ. New Zealand's GDP will expand 1.5% quarter-on-quarter,
although the Reserve Bank expected 1.8%. ANZ is less optimistic and lowered its growth prediction for the quarter to 0.4% from 1%.
The ASB revised its second-quarter growth prediction from 0.8% to 1.2% on the same day.
