The first two episodes of The Rings of Power, a Lord of the Rings prequel series on Prime Video, set up a story that will play out over five seasons of TV.

Set in the Second Age, thousands of years before Frodo was born, the show will show how Sauron came to power and how the rings,

including the "one ring to rule them all," were made. Even now, some people in Middle Earth, like Galadriel, can feel that something bad is coming.

In the first few episodes, showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay set up a lot of mysteries.

There are a lot of things that look bad and people who fall from the sky that look sketchy. People are also looking for Sauron,

who, according to what J.R.R. Tolkien wrote in the appendices to Return of the King, disguised himself during this time to trick the elves.

There are already a lot of theories on the Internet about whether the evil lord is hiding as one of the show's supposed heroes.

wizard might be an obvious answer. Tolkien says that Gandalf didn't come to Middle-Earth until the Third Age,

but it's possible that J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay have found a way to get around that.

Or the stranger could be a wizard from a different world.
