Solange is the first black woman to get a job with the New York City Ballet.

Solange, a pop star who has worked in music, choreography, fashion, film, visual art, and other fields, will soon add ballet composer to her list of talents.

The New York City Ballet said on Monday that Solange would write an original score for a work by Gianna Reisen that hasn't been named yet but will be

performed for the first time on Sept. 28 at the company's annual Fall Fashion Gala. The score is written for a small group of musicians that will include some of

Solange's musical partners and people from the City Ballet orchestra. Solange, who is 36, started her career young as a singer and dancer,

sometimes with her sister Beyoncé in a group called Destiny's Child. This move into ballet is the latest in a long line of risky moves she has made. Later,

Solange's work became more multifaceted and independent. Her music, which began with "True" in 2012 and continues with "A Seat at the Table" in 2016 and

"When I Get Home" in 2019, frequently serves as a meeting place for artists from various fields.Through her art and in the streets,

she has also been an activist for Black Lives Matter and other causes. Solange has always had a theatrical side, which brought her into contact with regulars and collaborators at Lincoln Center

who were not in the music field. She has worked with designer Carlos Soto, who is a frequent collaborator of auteurist director Robert Wilson.

She has also put on her own performances at places like the Guggenheim and Getty museums, as well as the Chinati Foundation in Marfa, Texas, and the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, Germany,

where she has also organised programmes. When she was a child in Houston, ballet was a big part of her life and helped shape her.

She saw Lauren Anderson, the first black principal dancer at Houston Ballet, and told writer Ayana Mathis, "My dream was to go to Juilliard."

This is Reisen's third dance for City Ballet. Costumes for the new dance will be made by Alejandro Gómez Palomo of Palomo, Spain.
