How Studio Executives See the World No one would have picked Michael Douglas or Glenn Close to play Dan Gallagher
the husband who cheats on his wife, or Alex Forrest, the sexy psychopath.
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest hadn't come out yet, and Douglas, who was best known for playing a cop in The
Streets of San Francisco and a rogue in Romancing the Stone, wasn't considered a big enough star to start a movie,
even though he had won an Oscar for producing One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, which won Best Picture.
Douglas, though, won over producers Sherry Lansing and Stanley R. Jaffe
stayed with the project for two years while it went through different directors and they looked for his leading sidekick.
