Andrei Kartapolov, who is in charge of the Defense Committee of the Russian Parliament, has said that Russia will not order a general mobilisation.

He said this just hours after the Lower House made wartime crimes carry harsher prison sentences.

In an interview with "Parliamentska Gazeta," Kartapolov was asked about fears

that a general mobilisation might happen to strengthen the front in Ukraine.

He said that those fears are "absolutely unjustified" and that "there will be no general mobilisation."

"This is something the president has talked about more than once, and he talks directly about it through Dmitry Peskov, who is his press secretary.

"Law" and "mobilisation" are not the same thing.
