said Thursday that he was leaving the NFL after eight years. White re-signed with the Patriots in the offseason for another two years,
but he is now on the team's list of players who can't play because of injuries. In September, he hurt his hip, which ended his season and forced him to have surgery.
In a statement posted on social media, White said, "It's been an honour to play for the Patriots and represent my family, my teammates,
and the people of New England!" "Thank you to Mr. Kraft, Coach Belichick, and the rest of the Patriots organisation for letting me live out a dream I've had since I was a kid."
He added to what was said, "It has been a huge blessing and an honour to play my whole NFL career for one team in front of the best fans in the league."
White, who is 30 years old, has been with the Patriots his whole eight-year career. They picked him up in the fourth round of the 2014 draught out of Wisconsin.
As a rookie, he didn't play much when the Patriots beat the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XLIX in 2014. However, he quickly became a key player from 2015 to 2020
during which time the Patriots went to three more Super Bowls and won two of them. Robert Kraft, the owner of the Patriots, said in a statement that James White has always been one of the most reliable players
on the field. "He is a leader with a soft voice who has led by example." James has been a great player for us, but he is an even better person.

He was chosen for the Patriots' All-Dynasty Team and 2010 All-Decade Team because of how important he was to the team's offence as the back who caught passes.
