Fire engulfs 42-story building in China; no deaths reported

BEIJING, China (AP) — China's capital, Beijing,On Friday, a huge fire in central China sent flames and black smoke pouring

out of a 42-story skyscraper owned by the country's largest telecom operator. No one was hurt, officials said.

Hundreds of floors of the China Telecom building in Changsha, the capital of central Hunan province, caught on fire.

The fire department of the city said that it sent 280 firefighters, who quickly put out the fire in the 218-meter (720-foot) building.

China Telecom said in a statement that no one had been hurt or killed.
