Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the leader of Iran, spoke to students in person on Saturday after being out of sight for almost two weeks.

Khamenei, who is 83 years old and usually talks while sitting down, stood up and spoke for seven minutes

at the Imam Khomeini Hosseinieh, or congregation hall, in Tehran, the capital of Iran.

According to his website, Khamenei called the trip of about 2 million Iranians to the city

of Karbala in Iraq for the religious holiday of Arbaeen a "miraculous act."

Ashura, which is 40 days before Arbaeen, is the anniversary of Imam Hussein's death at the hands of Muslim Umayyad forces in the Battle of Karbala

in the 7th century. This happened during the first 100 years of Islam's history, which was very violent.
