Brandon Belt, the Giants' first baseman, will have arthroscopic surgery on his right knee on Saturday in San Francisco, which will
terminate his season. Gabe Kapler, the manager, said on Friday that "it's certainly frustrating for Brandon and for all of us."
"We've been going in this direction, and Brandon has been fighting it so hard and
wanting to be there for his teammates and for all of us, but we just couldn't get over the hump."
Belt underwent the same knee surgery in 2015 and 2018. This season, the 34-year-old's inflammation has required numerous stays on
the injured list. He missed 23 games between May 19 and June 14 as a result.
He hadn't played since August 20. At the end of the season, he will be a free agent.
