After Years Away, One of Basketball’s Greats Returns at 41

Lauren Jackson, a three-time W.N.B.A. most valuable player and a hero of Australian women's basketball,

has returned to her national team after injuries forced her to stop playing in 2014.

It was a quiet coming back. A little over a year ago, one of the best women's basketball players of all time, Lauren Jackson,

went back to the suburban courts of Albury, a small regional city in southeastern Australia, to play social basketball.

No lines and no fuss. Just baskets. Jackson said, "I was pretty heavy." But I was still able to move around the court.

Jackson used to work in an office for Basketball Australia.

But she hadn't played in years. She retired in 2016, after injuries nearly ended her career in 2014.
