Shakira is letting her instincts as a mother guide her through the end of her relationship with Gerard Piqué, her longtime partner.
The 45-year-old “Hips Don’t Lie” singer talked about how she was trying to protect her kids during her breakup with the soccer star on the digital cover of ELLE in October 2022. Their sons are Sasha, who is 7, and Milan, who is 9.
“It’s hard to talk about because I’m still going through it,” the singer said. She went on to say that the constant paparazzi outside her house and the news stories have made a difficult situation in the public eye even worse.
“Only in my own house can I hide with my kids from them. “You know, we can’t take a normal family walk in the park, get ice cream, or do anything else without the paparazzi following us,” she said.
Shakira has done what she can to “hide” the situation from her kids, even though it is hard.
“My main goal in life is to keep them safe, so I try to do that,” she said.

Shakira: Protecting Her Sons Is ‘My Life’s Mission
As a mother, Shakira has been frustrated by the situation in Barcelona, where she has set down roots to help Piqué’s career and pay for her kids’ education.
They should be able to live like everyone else. “Everyone is making up stories about our lives and, more importantly, the lives of our children, and a lot of them aren’t even true,” she said about the children.
She is under a lot of pressure as she tries to work out a parenting plan with Piqué.
Gerard is the father of my children, no matter how things ended or how I feel about him as an ex-partner. “I have faith that we will figure out what is best for their future, their own dreams, and a fair solution for everyone,” she said. “I hope and would appreciate it if we could do this in private.”
Shakira takes care of her kids while she figures out how she feels about the breakup.
“For women like me who value family and have a big dream of having a family forever, seeing that dream broken or shredded into pieces is probably one of the most painful things you can ever go through,” she said.
Shakira also talked about the time she spent away from her career and said that she has no regrets.
“I mean, one of us had to give something up, right?” she asked and then added. “And I did it. I stopped working on my own career and moved to Spain to help him play soccer and win titles. And it was done out of love. ”
“Thanks to that, my kids had a mom who was there for them, and I have a strong, unbreakable bond with them that keeps us going,” she said. So, you know, that’s it. That’s all I can say.
