Richard Roat, ‘Seinfeld,’ ‘Friends’ actor, dies at 89

NEXSTAR) –  Richard Roat, an accomplished character actor who had more than 135 TV and film credits to his name on IMDb, passed away yesterday at the age of 89.

According to an obituary that was published in this week’s edition of the Los Angeles Times, Roat passed away on August 5th. Over the course of the previous six decades, he had acted in scores of iconic television shows and sitcoms, beginning with a part in the show “Car 54, Where Are You?” in 1962. Since then, Roat has made guest appearances on television shows such as “Hawaii Five-O,” “Columbo,” “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” “The Bob Newhart Show,” “Happy Days,” “Dallas,” and “Friends,” in addition to playing recurring roles on several daytime dramas such as “The Doctors,” “Generations,” and “Days of Our Lives.”

Viewers may also recognize Roat from an episode of “Seinfeld” from 1996 called “The Package.” In this episode, he portrayed a physician who had a tough time treating Elaine Benes, and the episode was dubbed “The Package.” 
According to his obituary, in addition to his work in television and cinema, Roat was a stage actor who performed on Broadway and in other theatre shows in New York City, Los Angeles, and Pasadena.

Even though Roat didn’t work in the entertainment industry, his obituary said that he “had a successful career as a tax preparer for the entertainment industry for almost 50 years.”

Although the obituary mentioned that Roat’s death was unexpected, the cause of Roat’s death was never revealed.

According to what was said in his obituary, “He will be thought of often, with warm recollections and a silent chuckle for all of the good times he gave to our lives.”
