The latest version of Cannondale’s SuperSix Evo was found today. Instead of a complete redesign, as many people had hoped for this year, it’s a limited run of lightweight framesets. It is called the SuperSix Evo Leichtbau, which means “lightweight construction” in German. Cannondale says it is the “most refined version of SuperSix Evo ever.”

The brand says that the Leichtbau frame is 90 grams lighter than the SuperSix Evo Hi-Mod, bringing the raw frame with hardware weight down to 750 grams. It’s not clear which size this is for, but since Cannondale usually gives weights for 56cm frames, it’s probably the same here. At the same time, a painted 56cm SuperSix Evo Hi-Mod was said to weigh 866g when it first came out.

It will only come in four sizes: 51, 54, 56, and 58 cm. Only 200 frames will be made available worldwide, and each one will be numbered. Not surprisingly, joining such a small club will cost a lot of money. The frame, fork, headset, Seatpost, saddle clamp, and derailleur hangers, among other parts, will cost £4,250, $5,200, or €4,999.

Cannondale launches new, lighter-weight

Cannondale hasn’t changed its all-around race bike in three years, and fans of the SuperSix platform were hoping for a change in the summer of 2022. But Cannondale’s SuperSix Evo wasn’t there, even though the time leading up to this year’s Tour de France was like opening the flood gates, letting out the pressure that had been building up because of delays caused by the pandemic and problems with the global supply chain.

It’s not exactly old, but it’s not exactly young either. It’s 30mm tire clearance, disc brake, tubeless compatibility, aero considerations in the frame tubes, and integrated cockpit cabling are all still very popular and used as selling points for new bikes. All of these technologies were first used by Cannondale, and many other brands have spent the last three years trying to catch up. In order to show the rest of the industry that it is still moving forward, Cannondale made the SuperSix Evo Leichtbau, which is similar to the BMC Masterpiece range that was just released.

But in a time when it seems like there are no bikes for sale, waiting lists for new bikes are months (or even years) long, and the cost of living is rising faster than a tubeless tire with a flash charger, we can’t help but wonder if the benefits of showing off your technological skills and charging a lot aren’t outweighed by turning off customers who just want to buy a bike.
