A former employee said that the staff had to keep quiet about the “great secret” of the couple’s marital problems and cheating so that it looked like everything was going well.
Patrick Jephson, who served as Diana’s private secretary, says, “We went through a period of what was, I believe, genuine unhappiness when the Prince and Princess appeared to be together in public, but we knew that, behind closed doors, they were no longer an item.”
“The months leading up to the public revelation that they were going to divorce, which took place in 1992, were a very difficult and stressful time for both of them.”
He added: “So, you can understand, if you’ve ever worked in a company where you are concealing some significant secret, it has a very corrosive effect.”
