Extra support for Keighley people seeking to quit smoking

More help is being given to people in the district who smoke and want to quit. People in the Bradford area can now get the Living Well service to help them stop smoking at some GP practices and pharmacies and directly from the team.

As part of the initiative, people are given free, personal support and ongoing professional guidance to help them stop smoking. Experts will figure out the best ways and tools for each person to stop smoking for good.

Help is given to deal with cravings, and it is explained how to use tried-and-true methods and treatments, such as nicotine replacement therapy.

Living Well, a group of organizations that includes Bradford Council has agreed to support Stoptober, a campaign run by Public Health England every October to help people quit smoking.

Cllr. Sarah Ferriby, the council’s executive member for healthy people and places, says, “We are delighted that more people in the area can get help to stop smoking through their pharmacy or GP as well as from our team.”

Smokers in the district who are seeking to stub out the habit.

“We know that many smokers have probably tried to quit before, but we want them to keep trying. Getting the right help has been shown to make a difference, and this service can really help people stop smoking by giving them personalized help.

“You can always stop smoking, and it’s one of the best things you can do for your health.”Research has shown that smokers are five times more likely to quit for good if they go for 28 days without smoking.

Also, a new survey by Opinium found that more than half of smokers want to quit, and if they could go back in time, three-quarters of them would never have started smoking. Through the Living Well service, anyone in the Bradford area over the age of 12 can get help to stop smoking.
