Discord voice chat is now available for Xbox beta testers

Last week, Discord and Microsoft announced Discord voice chat. At first, only Alpha and Alpha Skip-Ahead Xbox testers who were invited could use it. Xbox Insiders in the Beta ring, which don’t need an invite, can now use the new feature.

Discord voice chat is available

At 5 p.m. ET/2 p.m. PT today, Microsoft is giving beta testers a new Xbox dashboard update that will let them use Discord voice. The voice chat works by linking an Xbox account to a Discord account. Then, using the Xbox mobile app, you connect to a voice call on Discord and send it to an Xbox console.

Once the initial setup is done, it’s not too hard to connect to Discord voice calls and send them to an Xbox console. Since Xbox doesn’t have a dedicated Discord app, you won’t be able to use Discord chat, as this is only for voice calls.

On the Xbox dashboard, Discord calls are neatly integrated into the area where the parties and chat features are usually found. During a voice call on Discord, you can see all of your Discord friends who are on the call, change the volume, or end the call right from the Xbox dashboard.

This new voice chat feature for Discord will be available today for Xbox Insiders in the Beta ring, and we expect it to move to the Delta and Omega rings over the next few weeks before becoming available on all Xbox consoles soon.
