The new Apple Watch Ultra is the biggest change Apple has made to it since the first Apple Watch came out. When it comes out later this month, the Apple Watch Ultra is likely to impress with its brand-new design, focus on durability and extreme sports, and battery life that lasts for several days.
In new regulatory filings, more details about the Apple Watch Ultra have been made public ahead of its launch. The 36-hour claim is also backed up on the Apple Watch Ultra product page.
Information about the Apple Watch battery size
As MySmartPrice was the first to report, the most interesting thing these filings show is more information about the size of the battery. The Apple Watch Ultra has a battery that is 76% bigger than the battery inside the 45mm Apple Watch Series 8 and 92% bigger than the battery inside the 41mm Apple Watch Series 8.
This is pretty close to what Apple says, which is that the Apple Watch Ultra can last up to 36 hours on a charge, which is twice as long as the Apple Watch Series 8. Here are all the facts:
- Apple Watch SE 40mm296 mAh
- Apple Watch SE 44mm282 mAh
- Apple Watch Series 8 41mm284 mAh
- Apple Watch Series 7 41mm308 mAh
- Apple Watch Series 7 45mm542 mAh
- Apple Watch Ultra 49mm
The battery life of the Apple Watch Ultra with LTE
Also, there’s an interesting fact to know about how long the Apple Watch Ultra’s battery lasts in real life. Apple says that the Apple Watch Ultra can last “up to” 36 hours on a single charge. But, as the product features page for the Apple Watch Ultra says, if you use LTE, the battery life will go down by a lot.
Apple said that when the Apple Watch Ultra is connected to LTE, it can last up to 18 hours on a single charge.
Every Apple Watch Ultra has cell service built in. With a service plan, you can stay in touch all day for up to 18 hours with LTE. It works almost everywhere you can roam internationally.
Apple said that its claim of 36 hours of battery life is based on a total of eight hours of LTE connection and 28 hours of Bluetooth connection to an iPhone over the course of 36 hours.
Every model of Apple Watch has a shorter battery life when only LTE is used instead of pairing with an iPhone nearby via Bluetooth. Apple doesn’t say how long the Apple Watch Series 8’s battery will last when it’s only connected to LTE.
Instead, Apple says that the 18-hour claim for the Apple Watch Series 8 is based on a total of four hours of LTE connection and 14 hours of Bluetooth connection to an iPhone over the course of 18 hours.
